Project Green Light is a surveillance initiative and partnership between the Detroit Police and local gas stations which sends high-definition surveillance footage straight to police headquarters, and in this instance it worked.
A dramatic gang-related shooting was captured on HD-CCTV (which you can watch by clicking here) showing the moment a woman pulled a gun hidden in her skirt and shot a male rival sitting in a car, and it just doesn’t get any cleaner than that.
Because of Project Green Light, police were onto the shooting immediately. Further, due to the clearness of the footage cops had a clear identification of the suspect.
Per Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody: “Huge success, exactly what we had hoped for. We’re going to see you, and we’re going to see you clearly.” Per Detroit Police Chief James Craig within two hours of getting the images to the media, they had the female suspect in custody, after a viewer recognized her and called police. Officials reported that the shooter was found one mile from her house on her way out of town.
The shooting occurred at about 4:30 am on Sunday, March 20th, 2016 at a Mobil gas station on the West side of Detroit, and the footage shows the 20 year old female suspect (the only woman in the group that was caught on camera) getting a gun from a blue Dodge Charger and hiding it in her underpants.
Seconds later the woman approached the second car, a dark-colored Pontiac Grand Prix, and fired multiple times, striking the driver repeatedly.
After being hit, the victim / driver started to drive away, hitting one of the other men from the blue Charger with the car and knocking him to the ground. That is when another man, who is with the people in the Grand Prix, pounces on the female suspect, tacking her to the ground and, after getting the gun off the woman, both cars fled the scene.
The driver miraculously survived the shooting. Apart from stating that it was gang related law enforcement has not released a motive for the shooting.
