New York State Launches an Anti-Terror App (it is also available in Colorado, Louisiana and Ohio) so that Folks can Anonymously Report Suspicious Looking People without Fear of being Called a Racist “See Something, Send… Scroll down to read more!

See Something, Send Something” is an app which is now available to download, for free, on both iPhones and Android.

See Something, Send Something” is a new tool which is available to New Yorkers in the fight against terrorism.  The smartphone app allows people across New York to send photos and information of both suspicious looking people and suspicious looking activities to officials with the tap of a screen.  More importantly, New Yorkers can now do so anonymously, without the fear of either appearing discriminatory or of reprisal for their report.

According to New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo, who formally launched the app just after the latest terror attacks in Paris, after receiving a terror report via the app the New York State Intelligence Center will then look at it and evaluate its credibility before alerting the relevant enforcement agency if it is deemed to have been a viable claim.  Once the app is launched on a cell phone the user must enter their name and phone number and they can then send information on any suspicious sightings right away. “Please send a note with as much detail as possible” the app tells users sending messages, and it also includes information on what sorts of activity should be reported, such as bags left unattended on public transport.  The app is also reportedly available in Colorado, Louisiana and Ohio.  Why it is not a global app boggles the mind.

A post on the Governor Cuomo‘s website about the application reads: “Have you ever seen something suspicious, but weren’t sure how to report it? Now you can. Download See Something, Send Something and you can anonymously inform authorities if you see a potential threat.  We are doing everything we can to keep New Yorkers safe, and this is one way you can help.”

Per New York State Police Superintendent Joseph D’Amico:  “‘See Something, Send Something’ is similar to a telephone crime tip line or hot line but is not an alternative to calling 911 in emergencies. If you see something that may be linked to terrorism, send something.”

Governor Cuomo acknowledged that the app may be used to send bogus tips but he also dismissed critics claims that false tips will far outweigh real threats and result in a waste of officials time, describing the app as an “essential part of the city’s battle against terrorism”.

The link to New York’s “See Something Say Something” webpage can be accessed by clicking here and my only question is why such an app is not available in each of our United States, if not also on e federal level.   DISCLAIMER:  THE BALANCE OF THIS BLOGPOST IS  OPINION EDITORIAL AND MAY BE OFFENSIVE TO SOME.  IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE OR DO NOT WANT TO KNOW WHAT I THINK (from here on this is not me “reporting”, this is me speaking / typing my mind) THEN STOP READING NOW.  FOR THE REST OF YOU I OFFER THE FOLLOWING THOUGHTS ON GLOBAL TERROR AND TODAY’S SOCIETY:  It is a sad reality that at this time people are afraid to voice their concerns about potential terrorist activities because of the very real potential for blow back.  Say something, speak out, and you risk not only semi-literal public castration but also the very real potential for losing your job, your home, even your family… it’s simply amazing.  Our society has become so overly sensitive, so completely “pussified”, that we are not only slowly becoming veritable prisoners but we are constantly living in fear, just as terrorists wish for us to do. Today’s 2015 “PC” society is simply inane.

Not too long ago folks were able to speak their minds, to wear t-shirts with whatever they wanted on them, to fly flags or to place bumper stickers expressing their views, but not now, no way Jose.   And this is not limited to Dixie / Confederate flags… it most assuredly includes “saying something about seeing something” about potential terrorism.   In my opinion (for what it’s worth), I don’t care who marries who, or (for the most part) what adults choose to do to one another in the privacy of their own homes, or whether or not responsible citizens want to own bazookas, or who – if anyone / anything at all – anyone also chooses to worship.  But what I do care about is not getting blown up.  I care about being able to eat at a cafe without fear of some f’ing psychotic zealot who’s donning a suicide vest blowing me and my friends and my family and my neighbors up.  I care about being able to fly without being blown out of the sky by a religious fanatic with an improvised explosive device in her/his underwear or socks.  I care about 21st century radicalized Islamic kamikazes who want me and everyone that I know and love dead, and who not only don’t mind, but who are in fact eager to sacrifice themselves in the process.  So., I say…

And, in the meantime, if you happen to “See Something [then] Say Something”, and don’t worry about offending anyone.  Why?  Simple…

Because it’s better to be safe than to be dead.
