Haley had reportedly “met” her “virtual boyfriend” Samuel Campbell (pictured below), of Adger, Alabama, on the internet, and they enjoyed two (2) glorious years together in their “virtual relationship”.
So splendidly did the “virtual couple” get along online that they decided to move in and start a life together, with Sam leaving the deep south for the pacific northwest. But, and not withstanding the northwest trajectory, when Sam picked himself up from ‘Bama and rolled into Oregon things went downhill… fast.
While Sam was en route on his 38 hour, 2,540 mile drive Haley apparently came down with a serious case of “gonna meet my virtual beau in the real world” jitters. So what does Haley do? Deciding that she’d rather be single (she would later reportedly tell police that when she had made up her mind that she did not want to be Sam’s real world girlfriend she chose to hurt him physically) Haley set up (apparently very much like a slugger at home base) for his arrival by preparing a romantic table just outside of her home, complete with candles and glasses of wine for their first meeting, and when Sam pulled up on April 8th, 2015 Haley led him to the table and asked him to close his eyes, at which point she struck him from behind three (3) times on the head with a metal baseball bat.
So vicious was the beating that Sam suffered a fractured skull and cuts to the head that required staples. Sam told detectives that he thought he was going to die but that he was able to convince Haley and another woman who was at the residence that he would stay quiet about the incident if they would just take him to the hospital. Sam may be a liar liar pants on fire but at least he’s not a bat wielding maniac. Haley, who has no previous criminal record, was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon the following day, and she was sentenced to five (5) years in state prison on Wednesday, September 28th, 2015. With qualifications like hers Haley could probably play clean-up hitter for her prison baseball team…
