Meet 33 y/o Carissa Bryant (that’s her below), an Iowa Language Arts and Social Studies teacher who was arrested on the job in Marshalltown, Iowa on Wednesday, March 4th, 2015.
At some point during the school day school administrators received a tip that Mrs. Bryant was drunk, so the head office summoned the cops to the school regarding their “possibly intoxicated teacher”. When Marshall County Sheriff Deputies arrived and made contact with Mrs. Bryant they immediately detected the “tell-tale” signs of impairment (blood shot eyes and slurred speech), gave her field sobriety tests on the spot (which she failed) and then transported her to the police station for breath testing, which resulted in a BAC of 0.19 (which is more than double the legal limit).
Perhaps Mrs. Bryant was teaching about Prohibition, or maybe she is troubled by spirits (of the 80+ proof variety) or possibly she just had a bad day…. either way she was arrested, taken to jail, booked for public intoxication, bonded out for $300.00, has to appear in Court and has been placed on administrative leave from the school district pending an internal investigation.
It’s almost as uncool for a teacher to go to school all banged up as it would have been for her to have driven in that state… almost, and I guess that it’s better than her “banging” / having a sexual and or a contraband-fueled relationship with her students. Regardless, the silver lining is that cops searched but did not locate any booze in her car, classroom or on her person, and Mrs. Bryant, a married mother of one, allegedly admitted to law enforcement that that she had been intoxicated when she had arrived on campus. On the other hand, if that is true then she was likely even more impaired earlier as the booze dissipated / metabolized over the course of the day. Memo to Mrs. Bryant:
