Q:   Can charges be brought against me if I lied to my brothers probation officer about his residence?  Ft myers Florida lee county, state probation X2years. My brother moved out and did not inform his PO. He asked me to continue to tell the PO when he comes by that my bro still lives here and is away for the day. I agreed reluctantly to do this but only for a short while while he gets his new place in order. I know it’s a violation if he gets caught, but I’m wondering if I could be charged with a crime if they find out. Thank you in advanced.

Answered Unless he’s a really bad guy (not your average probationer) then odds are that your brother will face the music if and when he gets caught.

As for you, can you be charged with a crime for essentially aiding and abetting your brother’s continuing probation violation? Conceptually, yes you can. Several misdemeanors come to mind.

My advise: Don’t rat out your brother but you also don’t need to be lying for him.
