Thank you for asking me “What is the Difference between Self-Defense & SYG?”
There are three main differences between self-defense and Stand Your Ground:
1) SYG is decided by a Judge and self-defense is determined by a jury.
2) SYU pretrial motion seeking statutory immunity from prosecution; self-defense is an affirmative defense to a criminal charge that’s raised during a trial.
3) In SYG you have no duty to retreat before you use force, whereas in self-defense there is usually a duty to retreat.
In it’s most basic form the main difference between SYG and self defense is that SYG kills the State’s case before it ever reaches a jury and with self-defense you’re relying on a jury to buy what your selling.
In either event your life is on the line, and you need an inexperienced lawyer working for you.
