Lee County Deputy Sheriffs must’ve had a hell of a laugh when they popped Micah for misdemenaor marijuana possession and possession of paraphernalia on Tuesday, October 28th, 2014.
In Florida, while marijuana remains illegal (hopefully that will change, as an aside if you are a Florida resident and registered voter, then please vote “YES” on Amendment 2) these charges are misdemeanors which do not require a physical arrest. In fact, more times than not law enforcement will issue a NTA / PTA (notice / promise to appear) in lieu of having to deal with the time, paperwork and potential for aggravation which comes with every jail booking.
However, even in such misdemeanor cases cops also enjoy the discretion to take to you jail, directly to jail, without first passing “GO” and sans collecting $200.00.
One day the Sunshine State will wake up, smell the sensimilla, decriminalize, regulate and tax, tax tax the hell out of marijuana, freeing up cops and courts, saving silly expense, generating jobs and tax revenue and letting the folks enjoy a nice relaxing smoke (which is a kin to a nice drink, minus all of the aggressive, violent and dangerous side-effects).
