Meet 30 y/o Erica Kristine Flynn. That’s her below…
Cute isn’t she? Not so much in her December 27th, 2014 booking photo….
It’s hard to believe that that is the same person isn’t it? Well, apparently, that’s what a traffic accident at 75+ mph while wearing no seat belt, with a BAC more than 3x the legal limit (.283) and without a recent visit to the hair salon will do, or did to Erica anyhow.
On December 27th, 2014, the day of the tragic accident, Erica was on Winter Break from her job as a first-year teacher at Frye Elementary School in the Chandler, Arizona Unified School District (a job which the District has already stated and confirmed that she will not be returning to, regardless of the outcome of her case).
Per her initial appearance Judge Erica had “no felonies, no misdemeanors, no juvenile record, not even a traffic offense that is showing up.” Sadly Erica’s story is an all too common tale: One poor decision made while under the influence of intoxicants.
In this case Erica was almost certainly severely intoxicated (very few folks have a BAC of .283 and are not severely intoxicated) when she ran a red light at speed in excess of 75 mph and slammed into 66 y/o Kathleen Searcy’s car, killing the recently turned senior citizen (Kathleen is pictured below).
One life lost, another ruined, and all over violating:
Okay, so I don’t know if Erica was drinking vodka or not, but I do know that she made an alcohol influenced and bad decision to drive instead of leaving her car securely parked and seeking a safe mode of transport to wherever she was flying, er driving. If you drink (or consume other intoxicants) and drive then, but for the grace of ______, there goes you. If you are drinking (or consuming other intoxicants, or both) then please, pretty please, DO NOT DRIVE. Plan ahead. Have a DD. Call a cab or a driving service. Sit tight. Sleep it off. Do anything but get behind the wheel of a car. If you do, then just like young Erica, your life can be forever altered, and not for the better. Think about it.
When it comes to the subject of drinking and driving, the best advice that you are ever going to hear is: “Don’t do it! Get a DD (Designated Driver), not a DUI”.
Be smart{er than Erica Kristine Flynn}: Don’t drink and drive, but, if you do, just say “NO{thing}”, don’t blow (in FL your 2nd subsequent refusal is a crime) and call me stat at 305-381-8686, 305-798-2220, **ARRESTED, **MIAMIDUI, **MIAMILAW or **HABERLAW.
