Meet Kirk Soccorso of New York. That’s him below.
No Kirk did not get arrested, just fired…. from his job at Home Depot. You can hear his version of events here but let me proffer how his ex-girlfriend, er, scratch that, his decision to tattoo his ex-girlfriend’s name on his body, got him canned….
Kirk’s ex was named “Isis”, you know, after the Egyptian goddess of nature. And Isis must’ve been a goddess and a half to Kirk because four (4) years ago Kirk went so far as to tattoo her name on his person, in fact, the poor bastard tattooed it smack inside of mouth…
So there Kirk is, four (4) years later, all broken up with yet seemingly over Isis, and is working at a New York Home Depot when he overheard one of his co-workers mention the name “Isis”, which prompted him to show off his old tattoo. Immediately after that Kirk, who had been working at the Long Island store for about six (6) months as a tool demonstrator, said he was then fired and told not to return to work.
Apparently Kirk has been living under a rock because in his interview he claims that he had no idea “until just recently” that ISIS is an acronym which stands for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, an extremist terrorist group. He states that it was never his intention to scare anyone and that he was “just making conversation” when he revealed his inked lip. “I [just] want a chance for my job back… I feel a little lost… It was a good paying job”. In the meanwhile a spokesman for Home Depot has gone on the record stating that the decision to fire Kirk wasn’t “just based on the tattoo”.
Memo to the Folks: I cannot speak to New York but Florida is an “at will” employment State. This essentially means that, in Florida (as in any other “at will” employment State), absent an employment contract you can be fired (or NOT hired) for any reason or for no reason at all, provided that it is not for an illegal reason (i.e. merely because of your race, gender, etc.)
Memo to Kirk: You don’t have to prep for a PhD dissertation in PolySci but for Christ’s sake man read the newspaper or watch / listen to the news now and again.
