On Sunday, July 10th, 2015 an unnamed Miami model had her early morning photo shoot photo bombed by a boatload of illegal immigrants who pulled up behind her on a boat, bailed into the water and then scrambled ashore.
The unnamed model is seen in the picture above, and in the top right corner you can see the lime green center-consoled open fishing vessel which is approaching the beach at about 36th Street on Miami Beach. Below is a series of pictures the follow in real time rapid succession…
The pictures were generated from video which was taken by photographer Ekaterina Juskowski while her unnamed model friend strolled down the beach in a sequined dress at about 6:00 am on July 10th, 2015. When Ekaterina saw the boat approaching the shore she initially thought that it contained a group of scuba divers, so she stopped shooting the video (which you can see in it’s entirety here). However, as soon as she realized that it was nine (9) illegal immigrants bailing out of the vessel (which was itself abandoned) and running toward the sand she turned her camera back on.
Law enforcement experts believe that migration via boat like this one is a business which is driven by organized trafficking rings who gather clients from the Bahamas, Jamaica and Haiti and bring them to the Florida coast. They believe that smugglers coordinate with people who are already in the United States to help the migrants get settled. Per U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Spokesperson Frank Miller: “That’s a testament to how confident these organizations are – what we call transnational criminal organizations – who smuggle criminals and narcotics right onto the beach… There has been an increase in known maritime smuggling in Florida – from Key West all along the Florida coast – from fiscal year 2014 to now.” Miller went on to say that said that the coastline in Florida is so extensive that “it’s impossible to cover with just Border Patrol agents” so the organization has teamed up with the Coast Guard, law-enforcement agencies and foreign allies. Still, however, “it’s difficult to get a solid level of situational awareness on what’s coming in.”
Photographer Ekaterina Juskowski (pictured below and who’s website can be seen here) herself migrated to the U.S. from Russia when she was an eighteen (18) y/o university student. In response to watching these events unfold Ekaterina said that watching the immigrants in action made her “personal struggle seem rather small”. She added: “As controversial as the problem of illegal immigration can be for many of us, it is important to remember that people come here in search of the better life, and it comes at a very high price of great courage, hard work, and loneliness. I got to know America as a country with a big heart. While I trust it to the U.S. government to work out the policies on improving the immigration laws, it feels natural to stay compassionate and understanding on a personal level.”
