Nick had been booked into the Payette County Jail about fifteen (15) months ago on charges including unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, possession of burglary tools and having an invalid license. However, on August 26, 2014 Nick escaped from the Payette County jail by scaling a razor-wire fence, and surveillance camera footage shows him climbing the fence with razor wire and dashing away.
The U.S. Marshal’s Service just announced that Nick had been located and arrested in Tulum, Mexico, and on Friday, November 6th, 2015 he was turned over to U.S. authorities. Per Brian Underwood, who is with the U.S. Marshal Service, “Social media certainly played a role originally because this certain individual bragged about his escape on Facebook.”
Police had been monitoring Nick’s Facebook posts that included selfies and various shots around Cancun, Mexico.
Nick even went so far as to engage a local TV reporter (KTVB) in an approximately hour long Facebook Messenger chat wherein Nick stated: “This [Mexico] is my element. Within four days I had a new life, new ID, new face, new job… I have had more help from a total stranger that I just met ta week ago than I have from my entire family or circle of friend{s}.” When asked about his escape Nick stated: “That place [Payette County Jail] has more security flaws than any facility I’ve ever seen. To be honest, I don;t want to go back. That’s part of why I escaped. I had wanted to leave before me arrest. The only reason I was in America was that I loved a girl, she was my only reason for being there.”
Per Payette County Sheriff Chad Huff: “He [Nick] caused us some grief and we’re glad to see that he’s off the streets and hopefully he’ll get his day in court in Payette County. {Since Nick’s escape} we believe our safety and security of the jail has increased and is much better.“
Memo to Nick: Like many a Scooby-Doo villian you might have gotten away with it if it weren’t for… your inability to control your dumb ass social media / Facebook addiction.
