Meet Brian Filipak of Washtenaw County, Michigan. That’s him below…
Brian is a Lieutenant with Michigan’s Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office (albeit one who is now on administrative leave…).
On November 13th, 2016 at about 3:00 pm Brian was pulled over by Deputy Zachery Morrison of Michigan’s Montmorency County Sheriff’s Office after having reportedly received two reports that Brian’s vehicle had nearly hit several vehicles and almost ran off the road several times. What happened next (and before actually) was all caught on a police body cam (which you can see and hear by clicking on this link).
As soon as Deputy Morrison asked for Brian’s driver’s license and ID things went south, quickly. Per Deputy Morrison: “During the entire investigation, Brian was very uncooperative. Brian would try and use that he is a Lieutenant for the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office to try and persuade me by letting him go.”
During the stop an officer can be heard saying: “Brian, I’m going to have you step out of the car and do some field sobriety tests.” Brian did not want to get out of the car and when he was told that he couldn’t just stay in his car as he had asked, Brian then threw his head back in frustration and continued to plead with the cops. It got to the point that officers could be seen trying to pull Brian from his car before he was finally threatened with a taser.
Brian then smartly complied, stepping out of his car, at which point Deputies reported that he was staggering, swaying from side to side and slurring his words. An open bottle of vodka was recovered in the back seat, and Brian’s BAC was found to have been well over the limit (of 0.08) with readings of 0.28 and 0.27.
Brian was arrested for DUI (that’s his mug shot below) and has been placed on administrative suspension. It is unknown whether or not he will be charged with an open container violation and / or with bribery, attempted bribery or misuse of office.
Memo to the Folks: Be smart: Don’t drink and drive! Get a DD not a DUI.
When it comes to the subject of drinking and driving, the best advice that you are ever going to hear is: “Don’t do it! Get a DD (Designated Driver), not a DUI”.
Be smart{er than Washtenaw County, MI Police Lt. Brian Filipak}: Don’t drink and drive, but, if you do, just say “NO{thing}”, don’t blow (in FL your 2nd subsequent refusal is a crime) and call me stat at 305-381-8686, 305-798-2220 or 1-888-SHARK-8-1.
