The 40 year old Doc wasn’t looking quite as glamorous on Thursday, February 18th, 2016 when she was arrested for allegedly rammed a NYPD officer in the leg with her car as she tried to avoid a double-parking ticket in Manhattan. Per the NYPD the incident began when the Doc saw the cops writing her a summons for double parking her car and the doctor got upset, cursing at the officers and literally jumping onto her car. The Doc then reportedly got into her car and tried driving off with the driver’s side door open, hitting one of the officers in the shin. The Doc was stopped two blocks way by another police officer, who then arrested her.
The Doc has been charged with resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. Per her criminal defense lawyer, Alan Futerfas: “Obviously a misunderstanding occurred.”
Memo to the Folks: This goes to show that cancer surgeon’s are not necessarily as smart as either you or I. If you find yourself on the receiving end of an allegation by law enforcement (whether it’s a parking ticket, a DUI investigation, a domestic violence call… whatever the circumstances… when it’s you and the cops and you think that they are wrong…) then BE SMARTER than Dr Rachel Wellner and recognize that there is a time, place and manner to attack the bogus charges, and it is never by you in the moment. My Rx: Take one of these and call me in the morning!
