Last night a presently unnamed female driver, presumed to have been DUI, wreaked havoc on 34th street between 5th & 6th Avenues in Manhattan. The horrific scene occurred when the driver first rear ended a SUV, then turned around in an attempt to flee the scene, proceeded the wrong way against oncoming NYC traffic, striking a Chevy Impala head-on, sending the Chevy into a taxi cab and then proceeding herself onto a sidewalk, over a variety of pedestrians and into a storefront (Forever 21). Per reports, six (6) people were confirmed “seriously” (though amazingly not “life-threateningly”) injured, one of whom had to be “sawed out”after having been pinned underneath and in between the Mustang and a display case in Forever 21. Here’s how it played out visually (minus the “four bodies in the air” and the “lady who got hit as [the car] went through the [Forever 21] glass window”, per eye witness Matty Thomas):
Memo to the alleged intoxicated Mustang Driver: Traffic sucks and accident’s happen, but we, in civilized society, have to deal with that (and other crap) all day long. If you want to cut a path through Herald Square then either find a safe way to do it or just take a few deeps breaths and chill…
And if you happen to have an accident, even if it’s your fault due to inattention, distraction, or for whatever reason, then STOP YOUR FREAKING CAR LIKE A GOOD CITIZEN…. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, you were drinking and didn’t want to have to face that music, but how do you feel now? More importantly, how do the 6 other innocent folks feel this morning? How about their families? How about all of the witnesses? How about eye witness Matty Thomas, who said “It’s [this scene] going to be in my mind the rest of my life.”? Your initial accident is forgivable but your act in attempting to flee the scene, and the subsequent harm that it caused, is not. Whether you were legally impaired or not is apparently in dispute (although that is sure to be resolved by the blood test that the NYPD no doubt ordered), but that you are both selfish and stupid cannot be reasonably controverted. I suggest that you spend less time driving and a little more time reading.
Memo to the Folks: When it comes to the subject of drinking and driving, the best advice that you are ever going to hear is: “Don’t do it! Get a DD (Designated Driver), not a DUI”.
Be smart: Don’t drink and drive, but, if you do, just say “NO{thing}”, don’t blow (in FL your 2nd subsequent refusal is a crime) and call me stat at 305-381-8686, 305-798-2220, **ARRESTED, **305DUI, **MIAMIDUI, **MIAMILAW or **HABERLAW.
