On Wednesday, December 10th, 2014 sometime in the early evening hours, a man sat in his 2014 Toyota Corolla, parked outside of an ice skating rink in Ocala, Florida, peacefully having a conversation on his cell phone.
He was not expecting company, least of all a man tapping on his window brandishing a firearm, and another man at his passenger side, apparently an accomplice, boxing him in and demanding his car keys and property.
The man wisely exited his vehicle. handed over his keys, phone and wallet and ran from the car as soon as the would-be carjackers entered the vehicle. The victim ran until he saw another car, stopped it and had the driver call 911. In the interim, the armed robbers attempted to flee but couldn’t manage to drive the stick shift vehicle.
Although they did not get the car they did manage to scare the bejesus out of the victim. They also (armed) robbed him of his wallet (now know his identity) and his phone. Armed carjacking / armed robbery is a most brazen crime. In Florida it is a 1st degree felony which is punishable by life in prison. Anyone who is willing to commit such an offense is not a “real man”, although he really does present a serious danger to society and should be locked-up.
Memo to the would-be armed carjackers: “Hey…”
Hopefully you left fingerprints all over the car, making it moire likely that you will get caught, and then you can be some one’s girlfriend, in prison.
