Recipe for Disaster:  36 Beers  +  Cocaine =  DUI accident into Utah residence Meet 39 y/o Bernabe Urcino-Saldago, an unlicensed Utah driver.  That’s his mug shot below…. Just after 9:00 am on Monday, March 30th,… Scroll down to read more!

Meet 39 y/o Bernabe Urcino-Saldago, an unlicensed Utah driver.  That’s his mug shot below….

Just after 9:00 am on Monday, March 30th, Bernabe failed to make his turn in a Salt Lake neighborhood and wound up driving his truck through a yard, over a small stone retaining wall, and into the living room of a Rose Park, Utah house which was occupied by Mario Gutierrez and his parents.  The truck came to a stop with half of the vehicle inside of the house.  Fortunately the elderly couple were in another room at the time and were not, as they usually would be (per their son) watching TV where Bernabe parked his truck.

Per the younger Gutierrez, Mario immediately knew that the sound coming from the living room was a vehicle crashing into the home.  “If the truck would have veered over another five feet and missed the center support for the home, he would have went through the first wall and into my bedroom and ran me over.  I’d be dead.  I could be dead right now.  I mean, I came so close to him killing me… If anyone would have been up and around like we normally are during the day, chances are he would have run one of us over.”  Mario was the first person to reach Bernabe, who was inside the vehicle, unconscious, with his foot on the gas pedal.  Per Mario:  “I slapped him in the face three or four good times, as hard as I could [editorial note: which must have felt great].  Hew woke up, looked at me briefly, mumbled something and then passed  out again.  I yelled as loud as I could with everything I had, and he still did not respond.”  The family’s dog, who was in the living room, managed to escape unharmed.  Per Mario: “I don’t know how the dog survived.  The dog’s bed now has a couch and a coffee table on (it)”.

When they arrived Mario told the cops that he could “distinctly smell alcohol on the driver’s breath”, as well as gasoline in the house which had leaked from the truck.  Mario said that he grabbed the driver’s pants, pulled his leg off the gas pedal and killed the ignition.  Incredibly, somehow, Bernabe also did not suffer any injuries (responding paramedics cleared him on the scene), but he did allegedly manage to take and fail FSTs (field sobriety tests) and he reportedly admitted to police at the station that he had drank thirty-six (36) beers and used cocaine (presumably to keep him on his feet after all that beer) the night before the crash.

Bernabe, who lives in the same neighborhood, was charged with suspicion of DUI (no doubt pending blood results), negligent operation of a motor vehicle and driving with no license.  Mario says that people are always speeding down his 25 mph street.

Unlike breath, the blood alcohol results likely won’t lie.  Kinda like cocaine:  She don’t lie, she don’t lie she don’t lie….  Memo to Bernabe:  You are way lucky that no one died.  Next time stick to Coca-Cola.  Regular, Diet, whatever….
When it comes to the subject of drinking and driving, the best advice that you are ever going to hear is:  “Don’t do it!  Get a DD (Designated Driver), not a DUI”.

Be smart{er than Bernabe Urcino-Saldago}: Don’t drink and drive, but, if you do, just say “NO{thing}”, don’t blow (in FL your 2nd subsequent refusal is a crime) and call me stat at 305-381-8686, 305-798-2220, **ARRESTED, **305DUI, **MIAMIDUI, **MIAMILAW or **HABERLAW.
