Smith was originally drafted seventh (7th) overall in the first (1st) round of the 2011 draft by the San Francisco 49er’s out of Missouri and he emerged as one of the NFL’s top defenders in 2012 with a franchise-record of 19.5 sacks during the team’s run to the Super Bowl. Fast forward to last week and Smith, now a “Raider” was suspended by the NFL for one (1) full calendar year because of violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
Memo to Aldon Smith continued: You managed to make it into the NFL. The elite. The best of the best. This gave you fame, fortune and, most importantly, the ability to do that which you (presumably) love, for a living; but with that came something else…
Memo to Aldon Smith continued: You have a responsibility to your team(mates), to the fans, to the community and mostly to the kids. Whether you like it or not you are a role model and a hero and an icon, and that requires you to step it up a notch and not be / act like a douche baggerous, spoiled, entitled piece of crap. If you can, and if it’s not too late, then please 1) find yourself and 2) use your God-given talent to a) make a better life for yourself b) for your family, c) for your community and d) to help kids to responsibly develop their potential and live their dreams… on the field and out of prison.
