Meet 31 year old Jessica Davis. That’s her below….
Now meet 25 year old Chanda Davis. That’s her below….
As it happens both women were guests of the Hill-Finklea Detention Center in South Carolina at the same time, both having been arrested for shoplifting.
Although Jessica (on the right) was being held on both shoplifting and trespassing charges, after a little stunt in Court, and then back at the jail on Friday, December 4th, 2015, she now faces additional and more serious charges for escape and “breach of trust with fraudulent intent”.
While attending a bond court hearing and identifying herself as her cellmate Chanda Davis, Jessica managed to successfully get the Court to authorize a personal recognizance (or what we call an “ROR” – release on one’s own recognizance) bond.
But the “FAIL!” doesn’t kick in until later, when Jessica was transported back to the jail and placed back into the cell with Chandra. When “detention deputies” arrived at the cell to collect “Chandra” for her ROR, Jessica once again identified herself as “Chandra”. Deputies then completely and utterly failed to validate either any of the physical descriptors or any other information, Chandra / Jessica was released from custody and managed to spend the entire weekend as a free woman. Jessica was recaptured at about 3:00 pm on Tuesday, December 8th, 2015 and now faces additional charges for both escape and “breach of trust with fraudulent intent”.
Naturally an investigation is now underway as to how Jessica managed to weasel her way out of jail. Per Sheriff Duane Lewis of the Berkeley County, South Carolina Sheriff’s Office: “This is a violation of Hill-Finklea Detention Center Policy, and an investigation is ongoing in order to clarify what happened and why. [It is clear that] the detention deputies made a mistake, and we will investigate it thoroughly and put in control measures to make sure that it does not happen again”.
It is unclear whether or not Chanda Davis was in on Jessica’s plan and, if so, whether or not Chandra will face any further charges.
