When Dunbar was stopped by NY State Troopers on the Long Island Expressway for speeding (86 in a 60 mph zone) he produced a valid Pennsylvania driver license.
Unfortunately for Dunbar he was unable to stop the Troopers from discovering that, apart from his valid PA driver license he also had an invalid NY driver license.
Not only was his NY driver license suspended but it has eighty-eight (88) pending, open suspensions attached to it (his eighty-eight (88) suspensions on twenty-five (25) different series’ of traffic tickets which he received in NY).
.
Memo to the Folks: I don’t know the first thing about NY law or procedure but in FL not taking care of outstanding traffic citations leads to suspensions, driving on a suspended driver’s license leads to criminal traffic prosecutions, the combination leads to “Habitual Traffic Offender” status and HTO status makes you a felon and subjects you to a five (5) year state prison sentence. Please believe me when I tell you that Judges and Prosecutors tend to be completely unsympathetic to folks who utterly disregard the law by continuing to drive when they know that they are not supposed to be driving. Please also believe that if you get caught driving then there is virtually no defense to driving on a HTO suspension. Public transportation, feet and bicycles may suck, but they beat the hell out of a 12’x8′ cell.
