KY Man Buys a used VW at Car Auction, Drives it for a few Weeks until he hears a “strange noise inside the passenger seat”, Investigates, Discovers 3 Kilos ($130,000.00 worth) of Heroin Secreted in… Scroll down to read more!

In late November, 2016 an unnamed Kentucky man bought a (in fact, the one pictured below) used 2014 Volkswagen Jetta at the Columbus Fair Auto Auction.

The innocent third party buyer had no reason to know that that the vehicle had made it’s way to the auction lot after having been impounded and then forfeit some eight (8) months earlier, after it was stopped while being driven by 63 y/o Rolf Kruger, a former Mexican law enforcement officer (who was arrested, who’s mug shot appears below and who reportedly told the cops that a drug cartel was forcing him to drive the drugs across the country).

At that time Rolf had been stopped by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and a search of the VW revealed three (3) kilos of heroin.  A Highway Patrol spokesman reportedly said that the car was thoroughly searched with the assistance of a K-9 before it was released to the auction, and the auction company say they would never have allowed the car to have been sold if they would have known about its history.

Fast forward a few weeks and the unsuspecting KY man, who had recently purchased the car at auction, heard “a strange noise inside the passenger seat”.  He stopped to inspect and discovered (another) 3 kilos of heroin which had been sitting, secreted, beneath the front passenger seat in a hidden compartment.

The KY man (who’s identity is reportedly withheld for his own protection) immediately called the police and turned over the drugs when he realized what he had found (more than 6 ½ pounds of heroin with a street value of about $130,000.00).  The cops now have additional charges for Rolf, the auction company (which said that it would not have sold the car had they known about it’s history) has agreed to take the car back and the DEA has chimed in, with Tim Reagan of the Cincinnati Division of the Drug Enforcement Agency saying that secret compartments are often built to make things the drugs harder to find.  “It’s actually probably more common that law enforcement does miss cash or drugs in vehicles just based on the way things are hidden.  The only person that may know exactly how to operate the trap or where the trap is is the person who built it.”

Memo to the Folks:  “Caveat Emptor”, a Latin term which is more commonly known as “Buyer Beware”, is a doctrine that often places both the burden to reasonably examine property property prior to buying it, as well as the liability for not doing so on the buyer, thus indemnifying the seller once the sale is complete.

Memo to the Folks continued:  Imagine this guy trying to back-peddle his lack of knowledge had he been stopped and had a K-9 altered to the heroin while he was driving?  That’s almost as scary as the fact that the cops missed 1/2 of the stashed heroin in the first place… proving that nothing is certain, everything is faliable and good things happen to those  who act responsibly and reasonably under the circumstances.
