Will a Judge be more Lenient in Sentencing if you have a new-born baby or a Family to support?
Like most things in court this is a two-edged sword.
On the one hand you might think that a Judge would be compassionate and cut you a break if you have a new born or if you are the family’s bread-winner, but over the years I have heard many Judge say to many a Defendant that they should have thought about their kid or their family before they decided to commit a crime.
The fact is that just like anyone else in any walk of life, some Judges are going to be more sympathetic than others, and some Judges are gonna think that the child, the family and society will be better off with the offender locked up.
Most crimes require intent, or thought, before they are committed. If you’re hell bent on committing a crime then do yourself a favor: Don’t count on playing the sympathy card to your Judge; instead think about the risk that pose to your family before the fact.
