“What is a Docket Sounding / Pretrial Conference / Status Conference”?
There are 20 Judicial Circuits and 67 Counties in Florida, and while they are all subject to the same laws, rules and procedures that govern the entire State occasionally the language will very from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.
“Docket Sounding / Pretrial Conference / Status Conference”… these are synonyms and all mean essentially the same thing.
All are an opportunity for the Court to inquire of both sides (the State and the defense) as to the procedural posture of the case, their readiness for trial and whether or not there exist any outstanding issues which the court may assist in resolving such that the case can be scheduled for trial or plea.
If you are set for a Docket Sounding / Pretrial Conference / or Status Conference make sure to ask your lawyer whether or not your Judge requires you to appear. Some do and some don’t.
