Meet 26 y/o Joseph Wantz of West Boca Raton, Florida. Yup, that’s him below:
Joe is in custody in custody in Palm Beach County on non-bondable offenses. charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm, for robbing a pizza delivery guy of $107.00 worth of ‘za and whatever cash he had on him at the time.
It seems that smokin’ Joe (who was probably smoking crack) had the MENSA level idea of calling Pizza Hut and placing a $107.00 order for ‘za, bread sticks and soda, allegedly to accentuate his party. However, when the delivery guy showed up and there were neither any cars nor signs of celebration, he got suspicious.
Unfortunately for the delivery dude he was not suspicious enough, as he proceeded to deliver the goods and got a gun in his face for his effort.
Joe robbed the pizza deliverer for all of the food items as well as the cash that he carried and then, as if robbing the delivery dude was not dumb enough, in an unprecedentedly and even dumber move, he told the cops that he had witnesses his own cousin commit the armed robbery. To make matters even worse, Joe would, when his rouse was ultimately discovered, tell the cops that he had blamed his cousin for the robbery because they look alike and as he was not “the only one going down for this”.
Memo to Joe: Wrong again.
In Florida, a basic “plain jane” robbery is a 2nd degree felony, punishable by up to 15 years in state prison, if you carry a weapon then its a 1st degree felony, punishable by up to 30 years in state prison and if you carry either a firearm or a deadly weapon then its a 1st degree “PBL” felony, meaning that it is punishable by life in prison (see F.S. 812.13 ). Further, in Florida a BB gun, while not a “firearm”, can be considered a deadly weapon (thus bumping your dumb ass into the “PBL category), so long as there is an implication from your word’s or actions that the BB gun was deadly in the mind of the person whom you robbed.
