Slang is not a modern invention. Young people have been used slang to be secretive about drugs, parties, and sex for, well, probably ever, but now law enforcement is urging parents to read up on the latest, and incredibly creative, slang terms:
Broken (hungover)
Snow (drugs)
420 (marijuana)
Robotrippin (doing drugs)
KPC (keep parents clueless)
MOS (mom over shoulder)
P911 (parent alert)
PIR (parent in room)
GNOC (get naked on camera)
GYPO (get your pants off)
Netflix and chill (sex)
Salad (sex)
8 (oral sex)
IWSN (I want sex now)
Zerg (to gang up on someone)
Kids today are using their smart phones and computers to communicate, and this is a part of their language.
As police officers around the country are constantly familiarizing themselves with these new words in order to deconstruct texts, emails and Facebook messages in cases involving drugs, sex, sex with a minor, and alcohol they are sharing their booty with adults in the hope that they will do their job (“parenting”); and being able to decipher what your kids are typing is essential if you want to know what they are saying, doing, thinking and publishing in cyber-space.
Per Officer Vernon Dozier of the Norfollk, Virginia Police Department: “There are horrendous crimes that are discussed on social media. But to a parent who doesn’t understand these code words that they use, they’ll just look at it like it’s just normal jibber jab that kids are just talking on social media, but it has a bigger meaning to it. It needs to be addressed immediately.”
Parenting: Unfortunately picking up a book a reading is not gonna cut it….
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.” (~ A. Einstein)
