On Wednesday, November 4th, 2015 Kirsten was driving her Volkswagen SUV in San Francisco near Marina Middle School when a box truck had stopped in the right lane so as to allow two (2) twelve (12) year old boys who were en route to school to cross the street. As Kirsten whipped her SUV past the stopped box truck she wound up slamming her SUV into the boys while they were in the crosswalk. The boys reportedly went flying more than forty feet (40′), were thrown across the intersection with their backpacks, shoes and clothes left scattered in the street.
Both kids, who are students at Marina Middle School, were hospitalized with head and leg trauma at San Francisco General Hospital and authorities say that they are expected to be okay. The intersection where the accident occurred is reportedly notorious for cars being driven at fast speeds and in unsafe conditions. Although they were not accomplished it was reportedly scheduled to have had safety improvements installed last year. As a consequence of this incident a crossing guard “equipped with a yellow vest with lighted glow sticks” has been placed at the crossing until proper signs are installed.
Although I can find nothing to suggest where she was either coming from or going to, or how the cops determined that she was DUI / DWI, still Kirsten was arrested on two (2) felony drunk-driving counts, is reportedly no longer working as a teacher and is presently out of custody on $230,000 bail. As a kicker, and although the specifics are unknown authorities also reported that Kirsten had previously been (in a separate and unrelated incident) charged with two (2) counts of child endangerment with enhancements of allegations of great bodily harm.
Memo to Kirsten (and the Folks): It is neither my job nor my responsibility to tell you what to do or how to live your life (apparently nowadays that is reserved for the government…. but I digress) but I will say, as the father of a ten (10) year old boy who mostly either walks or rides his bike to school, that if you drive carelessly, recklessly, or under the influence in a school zone then you deserve to be caught, prosecuted and severely punished. And if you happen to hit and injure (____ forbid) kill a child in the process, well then there is a special place in Hell reserved for you. Please, pretty please, don’t drive impaired, pay attention and concentrate on driving when you are behind the wheel and when you are anywhere near a school zone drive slowly and with constant vigilance.
