Why was my case assigned to a different prosecutor and is this a bad thing?

There is no need to worry. You can relax. This is a very common occurrence, especially in larger State Attorney’s Offices.

Prosecutors rotate assignments regularly, and, the larger the office these more frequent these re-assignments tend to be.

This is neither a good nor a bad thing in and of itself, it is simply part of the mechanics of most State Attorney’s Offices.

On the other hand getting a new prosecutor assigned to your case can turn out to be either good, bad or neutral… for instance if you had a particularly sympathetic Assistant State Attorney who got transferred out and instead you were assigned a veritable hard ass, or if the reverse happens, where you had a brutal Assistant State Attorney who was transferred and then you were assigned a more sympathetic one, then that can surely effect you and your case.

But, apart from that, the transfer of Assistant State Attorney’s from courtroom to courtroom or from case to case is merely routine and, absent the most extreme of circumstances it is neither personal to you nor to your case, nor is it necessarily either a “good or bad” thing.
