Thank you for asking me “What do I do if I am Sexting with a Minor and then the Parent wants Money?”
So you met someone online, you hit it off, you exchanged phone numbers, in short order the nude pics started to flow and then, out of the blue, you got a text or a call from someone who claims to be the child’s parent, who advises you that you’ve been sexting with a minor and who demands money or else they’re gonna call the cops.
This is happening with increasing frequency, it’s almost certainly a scam and, even if it happens to be true, then it is called extortion or blackmail.
“Sexting” is generally defined as electronically sending, receiving, or forwarding sexually explicit messages, photographs or images.
You do not need to know that someone is underage to get in trouble, they just need to be underage.
Be clear that people can and do lie. People misrepresent themselves all the time. So if you have never met the person that you are sexting with then it is much more likely that they are an obese middle age loser living in their parent’s basement who is pretending to be someone other than them self than it is that they are your dream sex partner…
Thus: Sext at your own risk (and make no mistake that the risk is great).
My advise is 2-fold:
1) Do not sext with people that you do not know, and even then be careful and use good judgment but, if you do get one of these threatening calls then 2) Delete the contact, don’t engage them or respond again and if they continue to contact you then block them from doing so.
